Acquisition of 40,000 Hectares of Land for Forestry and Purchase of New Machineries Project Upon release of US$1,106,000,000.00 granted by British Petro, Boguchany Forestry Company Limited will be one of the largest forestry owners, pulp & paper and timber exporting companies in the world. Forestry Development The company will also be one of the Russia's largest private sector owners of softwood timberland. Boguchany Forestry Company Limited will have approximately 50,000 employees in 46 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Mexico, Ireland, France, and Uruguay. Boguchany Forestry Company Limited's forests and wood-lands will play a significant role in global biogeochemical cycles, particularly in the global carbon cycle and consequently, in accelerating or decelerating global climate change. Boguchany Forestry Company Limited's forests will contain 4 billion tons of carbon in terrestrial vegetation (including 3 billion tons of live biomass) and about 120 billion tons of organic carbon in the top soil layer. At the present time only half of this area is commercially accessible and only 6% is currently exploited. Russia contains 25% of the world's forested area and 20% of the world's forests are in Siberia. The forest stock in Boguchany Forestry Company will be 80% coniferous, consisting mainly of spruce, fir, larch, and pine in subarctic areas; these stands account for 52% of the world's coniferous areas. Deciduous trees (birch, oak, beech, ash, maple, elm) will grow further south and account for 13% of the world's deciduous forests. Within ten years Boguchany Forestry Company's forested areas will be vast. An estimated 85 million hectares (210 million acres) of forested areas larger than the total land area of New Zealand. Timber and Timberland The timber cut will yield 77.7 million cu m (2.74 billion cu ft) of round-wood. Productions within 10 years will include (in cubic meters): sawn timber, 19,000,000; plywood, 1,590,000; and particleboard, 2,482,000. Also within 10 years, Boguchany Forestry Company will export lumber and forestry products valued at over US$2.5 billion. Japan will account for 30% of the market.
